United States patent 437,685 was assigned to the Gaynor Electric Company by Thomas F. Gaynor of Louisville, Kentucky. The October 7, 1890 patent dealt with a coating for glass insulators that would make the insulator more attractive or allow the insulator to be easily distinguished from other lines on a crossarm or pole.
